The screening in Sofia is part of the event “The World Day for Overcoming Extreme Poverty” (FB event), organised by ATD-Fourth World, Médécins Du Monde and the Children’s Architectural Workshop.

This film gathers together portraits of surviving craftspeople in Stolipinovo, Bulgaria. A cross section of a community, young, old, modern, traditional all with something in common- the desire to live and work in a dignified way; through hand worked crafts, both fragile and powerful in their raw honesty against the backdrop of increasingly precarious conditions of labour.
The film carries a self-reflective style, being made by Osman Yuseinov, himself a craftsman working and living in Stolipinovo. It shares a glimpse into the initiatives of Duvar Kolektiv to co-create art as outsiders with locals. At the same time the film offers insight into aspects of the wider Bulgarian society; what space is left in it for craftmanship and having pride in ones skills.
Discussion with the authors

A sneak peak of “The Voice of Stolipinovo – Online”
The first round of the competition “The Voice of Stolipinovo – Online” concluded this week. For over a month the participants were sending us their own video clips and the neighbourhood voted on Facebook and TikTok who are their favourites. The musical genre, performnce language and visual style were entirely the participants own choice. In this way, the competition captures the musical culture of the community. You will have the opportunity to see some of the clips, as we are awaiting the Finals in November. On the Finals the top 10 singers will be record music and presentation clips with our professional crew before the winners be selected by a jury.

“Sharing Stolipinovo” is made possible with the financial assistance of the National Cultural Fund of Bulgaria, program “Socially Engaged Arts”, as well as by a number of sponsors from Stolipinovo itself:
